what are you trying to accomplish :?: if you are upgrading the brakes, bear in mind that you will not get the car to stop any quicker than what they do now, you may get a more responsive but better brakes will only make it lock up easier, specially the front end being a 60-40 split on weight distribution. I know you can get vented discs but you might be better of getting a complete kit rather than messing about trying to match stuff up. TT

I had a look into getting vented discs/rotors for my car a while ago but I couldn't get anything that would fit without machining. The capri ones bolt on differently.

Tony is right, it wont stop any quicker because the solid ones still lock up, but it will stop them from overheating and fading all the time if you drive it hard.

Excellent question! Here are some thoughts:

- Cooler brakes when used a lot
- Less fade when used a lot
- Better brake feel
- Less chance of "warping" rotors ( and yes...they don't actually warp but that is a different discussion)
- and they are "cooler", "neater" :-)

My thought is if we added similar sized vented rotors/discs to the front & rear then the changes would not affect the current braking/load balance. If adding vented changed the rotor thickness from .5" to .75" then we would need a .25" spacer in each caliper. Since the spacer does not change the inside dimension (pushes the outside caliper half outward) the rotor's hat size does not change (Which is 10mm (front) now?)

I agree that it will not stop faster than current and is not the goal.

If you put vented rotors on the front that are the same diameter as the originals, and use original calipers spaced out, then the balance front to rear won't be affected. Its a nice idea, I remember on the nurbugring my brakes were useless after a few corners, and the discs were blue when I finished the lap.

Went throught it, and passed over.

Ford M16 caliper spacer are easy to find on ebay, cheaply. they are ok.

Ford brake discs has 92mm PCD holes, while Delorean are 88mm. You need to check the internal hole of the disc to be 69.90mm and made on another offset 4x8mm holes on 88mm pdc. You need 254mm diameter, not more. Check for Capri 2.8 vented, but they are 247mm, they work after the mods, but you lost some mm.
Or you can modify other discs at 254mm, but are rare to find out ( Toyoya Supra MA61 ) or need lot more mods.
So, no quick bolt on vented discs.

Front balancing would not be a problem with this mods.
Even if you put 4 pot Austin princess caliper, or different 4 pot M16, i'm sure you will not have problem.
I have just front upgraded with custom 266mm vented discs, and 4 pot billet alu caliper, and i have about 30% more power in front than stock system considering pistons diameter and is nice to have it, but the most important thing is that i keep rotors and pad cooler. Stock power could be ok, but it last just 2 hits...then start to fade, if you run...
You can re-balance the caliper if you use a different brake pump, the original is 60/40 f/r but you can find the same as 50/50 and make it again perfet balanced.

That's that then. When it comes to brakes, Andrea knows all about it! ;)

 ...my old atmo engine at 7000rpm and exhaust... and my broken 2nd gear ... good old time :D :D !! One of this days i will build a racing original engine... no tricky turbo ^^
BTW the pourpose of the video was to put heat on the brakes, and as you can seen, after lot of times, you can hear i always lock the wheels to show they works enought.

Cineman ... great details. THANKS!

Just to be sure, the car in the video is running the vented discs? Nice scenery as well. Makes it much more fun than the local trip to Tar-mart or Wal-get.

The "hat" height of the front rotor is 10mm. Correct?

Thanks for all the help,
Nick

yes, the 266mm disc i modified to suit.
The easiest way for you, i think is to buy the capri vented disc on ebay, take them to a machinery shop with an original disc and copy the bore and attach hole. Then buy the spacer for the original caliper and done.
Changing caliper you need to be creative with the brake lines, which is not so safe if not well done.
